Carlos Tafich-Rios, MD, joins U of A rheumatology faculty

Carlos Tafich-Rios, MD, has been named clinical assistant professor of medicine (rheumatology) at the University of Arizona. He previously served as an assistant professor in the Division of General Internal Medicine, Geriatrics and Palliative Medicine from 2016-2023 and was associate program director for the U of A Internal Medicine Residency Program – South Campus from July 2021 to July 2022.

Dr. Tafich completed his undergraduate and medical degrees at the Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico (summa cum laude and valedictorian) before going on to perform his residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in rheumatology at the University of Arizona. 

Dr. Tafich has served as a member of the U of A College of Medicine's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, and has been a Physician Champion for the All of Us Research program - a National Institutes of Health initiative. He has also been active in the RECOVER initiative - a research program for patients with long-COVID.

He is a member of the American College of Physicians and the Society of General Internal Medicine. He is board certified in internal medicine and board eligible in rheumatology.
