“The Asian American Faculty and Alumni Association has a long and distinguished history at the UA and there are many wonderful and talented Asian American faculty here who have made important teaching and research contributions. I am both very honored and humbled by this recognition,” said Dr. Kwoh. “The AAFSAA’s mission of awarding merit-based and need-based scholarships is also very meaningful to me. I was the recipient of a similar scholarship from the Chinese American Educational Foundation (CAEF) when I attended college.”
An NIH-funded physician-scientist, Dr. Kwoh became director of the Arthritis Center and joined the College of Medicine – Tucson and Department of Medicine in July 2013. He came from the University of Pittsburgh, where he was clinical research director for the Arthritis Institute and held joint appointments as a professor in the Division of Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology as well as the Graduate School of Public Health, Department of Epidemiology, and the Clinical and Translational Science Institute.
“We want to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your nominating team regarding this achievement,” said 2015 AAFSAA President Theodore G. Tong, PharmD, and awards committee chair Cayrn Jung, senior coordinator, UA Life & Work Connections. “The competition for this award was extremely rigorous and this nomination demonstrated exemplary professional accomplishments and noteworthy contributions to the University and community at large.” Dr. Tong also is the R. Ken Coit Endowed Chair, associate dean and a professor in the UA College of Pharmacy.
